How We Got Here

My Journey to Unschooling

If you had met me years ago, you would have found someone who always followed the rules. I liked having a clear path, checking the boxes, and doing what was expected. It wasn’t until I met my husband that my perspective began to change. He challenged me to question why I believed certain things and encouraged me to live with intention rather than according to other people’s expectations.

That shift eventually transformed the way we approached parenting.

As our family grew, we found ourselves asking bigger questions. What kind of childhood did we want our children to have? What did learning really look like? Did education have to happen within the walls of a classroom or through a carefully planned curriculum?

Those questions led us to homeschooling.

Following the Trail

Like many homeschooling parents, I didn’t arrive at unschooling overnight.

My journey began with reading about the RIE philosophy and learning to truly respect children as whole people. From there, I explored gentle parenting and the Montessori method. Each philosophy gave me something valuable, but I noticed a common thread running through all of them: trust.

Trust children. Trust relationships. Trust the learning process.

The more I learned, the more I found myself drawn toward unschooling.

The Hardest Part Was Letting Go

I’ll be honest—I thought embracing unschooling would be easier than it has been.

Growing up in a world that values schedules, grades, productivity, and measurable outcomes makes it difficult to simply trust. Unschooling has asked me to unlearn many of the beliefs I didn’t even realize I held.

In many ways, this journey has changed me as much as it has changed my children.

I still have moments where I feel uncertain or wonder if we’re “doing enough.” But I’ve noticed something important: whenever I begin to feel lost, it’s usually because I’ve become disconnected—from my children, from our rhythms, or from myself.

When I slow down, reconnect, and pay attention to what our family truly needs, clarity always returns. Every challenge has become an invitation to grow, and every season has taught me something new about trust, presence, and living intentionally.

Our Family

Today, we have three wonderful children—ages 10, 7, and 4.

They are happy, healthy, curious, observant, confident, thoughtful, social, and wonderfully full of life. Each of them has a unique personality, and I feel incredibly grateful that I get a front-row seat to watch them grow into themselves every single day.

Their interests, questions, ideas, and adventures inspire me constantly.

Why I Started This Blog

This space is where I’ll be sharing our family’s journey—the beautiful moments, the hard moments, and everything in between.

You’ll find honest reflections on unschooling, respectful parenting, self-directed learning, family life, and what it means to raise children while continuing to grow alongside them.

I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t believe there’s one “right” way to raise or educate children. But I do believe that living with intention, staying curious, and trusting the process can lead to a rich and meaningful family life.

I’m so glad you’re here, and I hope our story encourages you to create a life and learning journey that feels true to your own family.
